Salicylic Acid, Salicylic Acid, is the one skincare ingredient I have heard most about in the year 2025. Personally, I have been scared to use any type of exfoliating acid in my skincare routine. But I have come a long way since then, and Salicylic Acid has been a staple in my skincare routine since last October. I have been loving it in my skincare routine, and I have noticed some visible changes in my skin texture and overall health.
Now, another question arises: Will I recommend this skincare ingredient for every skin type? Probably not!
Then it's time to answer some important questions about Salicylic Acid, from who should be using it to the best Salicylic Acid skincare products in India.
Explore La Peau's comprehensive skincare guide on Salicylic Acid and its uses in an everyday skin care routine.
What is Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic Acid is one of the most talked-about exfoliating acids and falls under the category of Beta Hydroxy Acids.
Beta Hydroxy Acids are oil-soluble ingredients that help remove excess oil from the skin and unclog pores, while also providing mild exfoliation of the skin surface. This helps replenish and remove dead skin cells, hence improving skin texture.
Why Use Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic Acid is often the first choice for anyone dealing with persistent congestion or oily skin. Its primary appeal lies in its unique ability to be oil-soluble, which allows it to go where many other exfoliants cannot.
While most acids sit on the surface, salicylic acid travels into the pore to clear out "gunk" before it turns into a breakout.
Salicylic Acid, aka Beta Hydroxy Acids work best in deep pore penetration, texture smoothing, oil control, and showcasing anti-inflammatory properties.
The recommended concentration for using Salicylic Acid in skincare is 0.5% - 2%.
In my personal experience, I have seen a great change in my skin after 4 months of using salicylic acid. There has been improvement in my skin texture, oil production, and especially whiteheads on my nose.
It is recommended to use it continuously for at least 3-4 months to see any visible results.
How Salicylic Acid Works?
The key task of Salicylic Acid is to:
Unclogging of Pores: It unclog pores by diving into the follicle to break up debris, helping to clear blackheads and whiteheads.
Reducing Skin Inflammation: It has natural anti-inflammatory properties that calm redness because it is derived from Willow Bark and is also chemically related to aspirin.
Absorbs Excess Oil: It helps to control and remove excess oil from the skin surface, making it the best choice for oily or acne-prone skin.
How To Use Salicylic Acid
Use Salicylic Acid serum after washing your face and apply it in the second step of your skincare routine, immediately after the cleansing step. Then, apply your other serums and moisturizer to lock everything in.
In case you are using Cleanser with Salicylic Acid, then you should allow the Cleanser to sit on your face for at least 2-3 minutes to allow the actives to penetrate into your skin layer. Don't rinse it off immediately.
Best Skincare Products with Salicylic Acid in India
Check out some of my personal favorites and some good salicylic acid products that I found in India. All of the skincare products recommended in La Peau are free from fragrance, denatured alcohol, and essential oils; only selective products are recommended here.
Salicylic Acid Serums

Minimalist 2% Salicylic Acid Face Serum is the go-to serum for my skincare routine. As I have oily, acne-prone skin, this serum has worked wonders for my skin. In Oily skin, you cannot afford to use a product that is too heavy or tacky for your skin, but this serum is so lightweight and smooth that I love to use it every day. I also have sensitive skin, and this is very gentle to use; I never felt any reaction or itchiness on my skin.
But I still recommend doing a patch test before using any product on your overall face.
Skincare Actives:
Propylene Glycol
Glycolic Acid
Salicylic Acid
Glycerin

Lactic Acid (mild Alpha Hydroxy Acid, recommended for every skin type)
Allantoin

The Derma Co X Dr V Skin Renew ABS Peptide Exfoliator Serum is good skin exfoliation serum that you can add to your skin care routine. I would say this is much better than any other exfoliator serum or peeling solution in the market, as they can be too harsh for your skin.

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (Inactive Form of Vitamin C)
Acetyl Glutamine
sh-Oligopeptide-1
sh-Oligopeptide-2

Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant is the world-famous and most beloved BHA exfoliant that has just entered the Indian market, too. Although this is a much more expensive product, you can buy numerous other serums instead of this, but if you really want to try this product, then its absolutely recommended.
Skincare Actives:

Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract (Green Tea)

Deconstruct Pore Control Serum is a great serum to use for oily, acne-prone skin or if you have combination skin for oil control.
